Pressure Field Extension (PFE) Testing

So what is PFE testing?  It is a fancy term that means we can measure the amount of pressure under your basement floor.  We do this to ensure that we are able to gather as much radon from under your home as possible.

Here is the process for PFE testing:

  1. We drill a 1-1/2″ hole through the concrete floor.  This hole is located in the best location for the suction pit, the beginning of the radon mitigation system.

  2. We drill smaller holes at the far ends of the basement.  These holes are used to take pressure measurements.  We can locate these holes in locations where you will never notice.  We can pull back corners of carpet or find locations is closets.

  3. We use a vacuum on the 1-1/2″ hole to draw air out of the soil and then we can measure the pressure that it creates.
  4. With this data we can then design a radon system: pipe size, fan size, pipe routing, etc.

We have 2 of 26 advanced diagnostic listed contractors by the Minnesota Department of Health.  This mean that we have the training, tools and passed an onsite inspection of our PFE testing.
